VINTAGE VALENTINE FREEBIE #4

Greetings, dear friends and readers! It's another week and time for the next Vintage Valentine Freebie! This one is truly a unique treat...I've never seen one like it before! I've even included the "lid" of the "flower box" because that's where the valentine "sentiment" is written. This particular variety a "modern" version of the valentine, circa 1949-50.

ANOTHER DAY...ANOTHER VALENTINE!

Greetings dear ones! Well, are you SICK TO DEATH of all the Valentine hubbub that has assaulted you from this blog? For those who are, you may want to listen to the music and mindlessly drift away for a bit...for those who are chomping at the bit to see what INCREDIBLE creation I've assembled, read on!

This is another little goodie from Wilna Furstenburg, designer and teacher extraordinnaire in my Valentines Day online class. (Those of you who did not sign up are soooooooooooo sorry...aren't you????) Anyhoo, here's project two for my amazing niece Emileigh:

Inventive Ways to Display "Works in Progress"

Hello friends! Happy Sunday to you!

One of my best friends is a Creative Memories Consultant (the gal that is doing the retreat workshop with me) and one of the "perks" of having such a friend is that I am ALWAYS "in the know" about the latest products to hit the CM market. This is a happy (to me) and devastating (to my wallet) conundrum. However, once in awhile there is such a wonderfully inventive product I just HAVE to have it...no matter the cost. The following are two such products:

These are the Creative Memories Everyday Display Boards. Aren't they FABulous? Their good looks are only half the story...these versatile boards have either a 12x12 inch display space (pictured above: white) or an 8x8 display space (pictured above, black...both come in both colors) The GREAT thing about these boards is that they are magnetic, so you can put together and display your scrapbook pages WITHOUT ADHESIVES or committing to any certain layout. You can change it daily until you get the look you like best. Another great advantage is that you can take the page directly off the board, glue it, then put it in your scrapbook and start all over again! As you can see, I use them to display holiday related layouts and/or other trinkets or eye candy that inspires me. I have seen these boards taken to business meetings to stylishly display charts and/or presentations.

So many of us use scrapbooking as a mode and means to display family photos...this is a great way to "frame them" before sequestering them to the pages of your scrapbooks...which may or may not be seen by visiting friends and neighbors. :-)

What you cannot see are the stylish ribbons and architectural knobs that are included for hanging. Also included are tiny clothespins, and extra strong magnetic buttons (that match the knobs) for holding your treasures secure.

A WAY COOL concept, don't you think?

ALTARED ART QUILT...MAIDEN VOYAGE!

Greetings gentle readers! I am writing today to show yet another project I've been working on...but before I do, allow me to (in the words of Ricky Ricardo) "do some splainin.'"

One of the things that helped me make the shift from traditional scrapbooker to altAred artist is my love for texture, color and...well...stuff! All kinds of random stuff! And I discovered (early on) that nothing (and I mean NOTHING) is exempt from the hands of an AltAred Art artist! The world is my palette and its bounty my oyster! (insert maniacal laugh here)

Meanwhile, back at the palace, my scrapbook pages were (in the words of many traditional scrapbook consultants) "too busy"..."too overloaded" and just, "too...TOO!" Ergo my first jaunt into the wonderful world of AltAred art.

Fast forward to 2 weeks ago. I saw (while perusing the 30+ blogs I read each day) some DREAMY vintage fabric and some GORGEOUS vintage aprons, and...well...that's where it began. I love quilts because they are so colorful and eclectic. (Bear in mind I am one of the "special girls" in home ec who had to turn in her "zipper work" 4 times to get a "D"...and I never DID pass the "hemming" bit!) so needless to say, sewing is NOT my forte.

However, while reading one of my somerset magazines (they are all riddled beyond belief...from all the oooooooooohing and ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhing I do) I saw ART quilts. Tiny, non functional, groovy to look at ART QUILTS! AHA! The wheels began to spin...maybe I don't have a sewing machine and maybe I CAN'T sew, but I DO know how to embroider (sort of) and with all the amazing stuff they have to help the sewing challenged, well, I just HAD to give it a go (as they say across the pond).

And so, without further adieu, I give you my first attempt EVER at sewing ANYTHING since the zipper debacle of yesteryear. I made it with the FABulous vintage fabrics I told you about a few posts ago (laugh me to scorn if you must):
