A GHOULISH WELCOME TO YE ALL!

Greetings, boys and ghouls...(sorry, I couldn't resist)!

I have been busily working on my online classes, as well as preparing more goodies for Art In Season. By the way, kudos to Ngaire for mentioning my little shop on her blog! I appreciate all the positive PR I can get!

Here are my most recent projects from my class with Teresa McFayden:

A Welcome sign complete with ghoulish photo (okay, so she looks NICE, I couldn't help it. I didn't want to SCARE my company away!), vintage laces and brooch:

And then a door hanger sign...which was supposed to say "SPOOKY"...but I'm feeling a bit more in thanksgiving mode these days...so I made a "BLESSED" sign instead!

Other than making an incredible mess, these two projects were easy peasy! Several layers and steps to each, but about an hour for each project. (Of course, if I'd have had all of my materials set aside at the BEGINNING of said project, it would have shortened my work time considerably, however, my creative "mojo" doesn't "roll" that way! I do a "create on the fly" kind of thing! It takes more time but I end up much happier with my projects!)

AND IN MY SPARE TIME (lol)...

Greetings, dear readers!

In the midst of trying to "set up shop" as well as pay some kind of attention to my "day job", I have enrolled in two online classes, 1 paper cowgirl retreat and 1 swap. I've told you about the Sweet and Sinister Swap at Artsy Mama's...and the Paper Cowgirl Retreat happening this weekend in Waxahachie, Texas (oh how I wish I could be there!) I have also been busy with Wilna Furstenburg's Cupcakes and Coffee Class. Here are the projects we've made so far:

A cute little album made from a Starbucks coffee cup!

We even used the little sleeve that comes with the cup to keep your hand from being scalded! Behold la petite album:

And a cupcake canvas..complete with glittering icing!

And a mirror mosaic tile album

And (I'm on a roll, right?) Cupcake Coasters

And Glittering Cupcake Paper Clips!

And, I've been making projects for Teresa McFayden's Bellaween Zine as well...here is a sample of those creations:

And of course you know I couldn't let the Halloween season go by without introducing a few of my creepy doll heads into the decor!

Okay, so this one's not creepy. I think it's sweet. I'm trying to stay on the sweet, vintage side of sweet and sinister this year...speaking of sweet, look what my swap partner sent me in my box of Sweet and Sinister Goodies!

A sweet little vintage kids costume! Isn't it precious? I just LOVE it! She also sent me a spice rack FULL of cleverly disguised scrapbooking supplies, (photos to come!) and very cool orange wreath and a TON of really cute Halloween paraphernalia...one darling little grandson comes rushing to mind as I begin to use the albums and look for a "subject" to make the center of all my creations!

I'm working on my AltAred Art videos...I'll let you know when my premiere segment debuts! lol

WELCOME TO ART IN SEASON!

Greetings, dear readers!

Well, at long last I have a goodly portion of my shoppe items posted in a format that you can now browse and peruse. However, due to circumstances FAR BEYOND MY CONTROL, (tech issues...believe me when I tell you I am sparing you the horror of the gorey little details) prices and such are not on the blog. So when you find a piece and/or kit you are DYING to purchase, please email me to get prices and shipping costs.

SO, without further adieu, I give you Art In Season. Remember this blog is a temporary format until my shop opens officially with Lollishops. Meanwhile, enjoy!

Thank you all, dear readers, for your amazing show of support and enthusiasm for my little shop!

TA-DA!

Greetings, dear readers!

I have been furiously uploading photos and writing descriptions for my little shoppe of goodies...I'm hoping to be "unofficially opened" this weekend! The Lollishops mall is taking a bit longer than expected, so rather than create an e-commerce page that has to be REcreated all over again, I am simply going to add the photos to a blog and let you come in and peruse there! If you have any questions and/or want more info please email me.
(sneak peek at a table o'goods)

Remember, the name of the shoppe is "ART IN SEASON" which means I will be selling seasonal papercrafts and home decor items...but I will also have those one-of-a-kind home decor "kits" that are season-neutral. :-) There will also be an occasional item that may not pertain to any particular season...it just depends on how my creative "mojo" works (or doesn't work)on any given day.

Most items are OOAK (one of a kind) because I simply cannot seem to get into the "mass production" type of mode. I may make more than one of a particular KIND, but rarely will you see two identical items. I just don't "Roll" that way! ha!

Soooooo, back to the photo uploading! Just wanted to pop in and give you this update. I'll hopefully be back later to greet you and invite you into the shoppe!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAM!

Tomorrow (September 17th) is my baby sister Pam's birthday. She is 10 years younger than I, and is one of the most precious, important people in my life. She has a wonderful sense of humor, a sharp wit, and is an incredibly talented writer, cartoonist, and Martha Stewart wannabe.

I've created a little birthday celebration for her here...(even tho she'll probably KILL ME for this!) The message includes her husband John also. (who will DEFINITELY kill me for this!) SO, without further adieu, I give you:

TALK TO ME PEOPLE! I'M LISTENING...

Greetings, dear reader!

The title of this post is taken from my favorite (and yours) TV psychiatrist, Frasier Crane. His opening line while hosting a radio show was always, "I'm Listening." (My sister Peggy, being the amazing gift giving "hoot" that she is, presented me with a plaque engraved with this quote upon the occasion of my receiving a bachelors degree in Psychology. Always the perfect gift giver!)

I digress...the reason for this post is to ask YOU, dear reader, the following:

"Is there is an AltAred Art related subject you would like for me to address in a 'how to' video?"

A "fan" and dear friend has asked me to do a video on "Must Have Tools" for the altered art artist. (In my last video I referred to a handy gadget called a Crop-o-dile...not only had she not heard of said gadget, but has never laid eyes on one! Can you imagine?!?!) I admit I have been in the scrapbooking/altered art world for so long I fear I have adopted the vocabulary without much explanation...forgetting there are newbies out there who are just discovering the amazing world of altered art and hybrid scrapbooking!

If you are an auditory as well as a visual learner, then videos will enhance your ability to learn moreso than a written blog post. (Even a post with pictures!) So this is your chance!

What would be most helpful to you? What would you like to see me explain and/or create? I am planning a video where I create an altered book step by step. What would you need to know in trying to create along with me?

Please leave a comment here and let me know what you'd like me to include...remember, here at the Palace "THERE ARE NO STUPID QUESTIONS!" I believe questions are a sign of growth...and so I say, HOORAY! Ask away!

Before I go, a word from our dear psychiatrist:

ALTARED BOOK: HOW THE WEST WAS FUN!

Greetings, dear reader!

I think I've mentioned in some of my previous posts that since I am participating in the Paper Cowgirl Retreat see info in my sidebar) I have been on a rather unusual cowgirl "kick." Since this altAred book I made is right in keeping with said "kick"...I give you my paper bag album: How The West Was Fun.

Paper bag albums are my FAVORITE kind of altered book to create...they are quick, simple, and very inexpensive. AND they have built in "pockets" for stashing tags, memorabilia, whatever! I'll give you a super quick video tutorial at the end of this post.

This book pays homage to a trip taken to the "wild west": Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. Amazing scenery. I actually saw many "homes" on the range...it was FABulous! I and my mom went together as travel companions...and, as you'll see in the album, she was quite the history buff. So learning was NEVER optional...it was kind of...thrust upon you. :-) I grew to appreciate these on-the-fly history lessons...and now that mom's gone...appreciate them (and the memory of them preserved here) even more.

I've left the pictures large so if you click on them you can check out the journaling and the details. This was my first "western themed" ANYTHING, and I was so pleased with how it turned out! The red bandana material was just the thing to add a bit of vintage western charm!

And now for "Paula's! Quick and Painless Paper Bag Album Tutorial":
